The bed is stylish and looks great and was exactly what I wanted - however, part of the reason I chose this bed was because it was a platform. I recently bought a memory foam mattress and didn't want to shell out a few hundred more dollars for a box spring. When the bed arrived (fairly quickly from the size - got it within about a week) and I unpacked it to put it together, it quickly became apparent that a trip to Home Depot was in my near future. The slats that come with it are also a little on the cheapy side, so I'll probably buy some 2x4s to replace them and a piece of plywood to support the mattress.
The bed itself is very nice. The "leather" has a nice sheen - not too matte and not too shiny. It's a nice dark chocolate brown. I had previously purchased dressers and other furniture and was concerned with buying a wood bed and the finishes not matching - this is a perfect solution to that problem. It's a little low to the ground, but I suppose that's the nature of a "platform." It's made for a platform I think, but you could probably use it with a box spring.
If not for the no platform problem, this would get a 4.5 or so.

I was so pleased when my bed arrived. The leather is soft and luxurious and it is just beautiful. You can use a dust ruffle if you get at least an 18" drop and it changes the look of the room. I like that I can have a modern or a formal look depending on my mood. The bed arrived on time and was easy to put together. I love it and would recommend to anyone who wants a beautiful leather bed.
