Assembly is ridiculous and the quality is poor. August 8, 2010 muse My husband and I purchased this dresser a few weeks ago for our twins' nursery. We decided that yesterday (08/07/10) was the perfect day to assemble the dresser and get the nursery set up.
We started assembly at 2:30 PM.
We finished assembly at 7:30 PM.
We've purchased numerous DIY items over the last 10 years and this was, by far, the most difficult we've ever dealt with. The instructions are simply pictures, which doesn't help much since several of the dresser pieces look exactly the same except for very very small differences. We had to take the dresser apart numerous times because the pieces weren't well marked and we used the wrong pieces in the wrong places. The small silver screw pieces (I don't know their official name) were a total PITA to deal with. You had to place them in large holes in the wood but as soon as you moved the wood from laying completely flat, the silver pieces fell out. It took us awhile to figure out the only way to keep them from falling out was to place a small piece of tape over them to keep them in the wood while we assembled the rest of the dresser. Several of the holes indicated in the directions were not even on the wood pieces, so we had to drill them in ourselves. Anyone who tried to put this together without having an electric drill would have been SOL.
It also would have been very helpful had each wood piece been marked in some way to indicate which piece it was. Each piece is referenced by name in the instructions, but two pieces called "Front brace" and "Back brace" don't mean much until you get the item assembled. They look exactly alike, except for one of the holes is slightly off-center and the other is centered perfectly.
We have yet to use the dresser, but the drawer bottoms already seem a bit on the flimsy side and I'm not sure how long it will last. I expected that an item that retails for over $200 would be of better quality. We could have gotten a better quality dresser at Target, Fred Meyer or IKEA for half the price of this one. In a year or so, we may end up having to do that.
Based on assembly issues alone, I would not recommend this dresser to anyone.
good for the money June 1, 2010 master zoey (belleville,nj) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking for a non expensive dresser to match our daughter's crib. Well I found it. It was delivered in good time and I was able to put this dresser together within 3 hours by myself (between feeding the baby). The directions were straight forward and easy to follow. And I have to say its a pretty good looking dresser, it doesn't look cheap at all. Very sturdy and nice cherry coloring. It has ample room for my daughter's stuff - definitely worth every penny. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is b/c one of the (minor)pieces had a small scratch - but I could live with that.
The instructions to put this thing together are horrible!!! March 23, 2010 Jose Acevedo Although this product was the color we were looking for and the price was very cheap compared to other dressers, I have to admit that the dresser was not as strong and sturdy as I expected it to be. Also, it took me too long to put that thing together, the instructions were very bad to follow so I put certain parts on the wrong way and had to take it apart after I realized they were on wrong. I suggest that better assembly instructions come with it.
TERRIBLE FIT, NICE FINISH... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! March 15, 2010 NY GUY (NY, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
(Lesson learned #1) You get what you pay for. (Lesson learned #2) All that glisters is not gold.
We purchased this dresser along with other items for our baby's nursery. After having a difficult time finding a piece to match the cherry color our crib we decided to purchase this dresser. Amazon had the lowest price and free shipping which made this an easy buy. The dresser was packaged well and all items were present and accounted for. Although the assembly was not difficult, the cheap Chinese hardware was complete garbage. The mill work was not accurate and the cam-locks that hold the parts together were made of such cheap metal that they stripped out easily with only a screw driver. The wood parts are decent, but the flimsy particle board used on the drawer bottoms and the dresser back will not stand much use.
The end result is an inexpensive dresser that looks nice from afar but will most likely find itself on a curb with the weekly garbage pickup before very long. Don't plan on putting too much weight in the drawers. I was able to improve the dresser after assembly with some inexpensive steel brackets that I picked up at the local hardware store. If you buy this piece it will also help to have some furniture glue handy to make things more rigid. My ultimate recommendation would be to spend $50-$100 more on a dresser that will last more than a year. Or better yet, buy an American made one. The quality is much better!
overall good product February 2, 2010 J. parker (Bakersfield,Ca) The dresser was easy to put together. Took my husband a couple of hours to do it. The only complaint I have is that some of the side wood pieces for the drawers were split and he had to glue them back together. The finish is beautiful and matches perfect with my daughters cherry wood crib she already has.
